Kitchen Island and Baby Hippo's

I introduced my husband and son to a new piece of furniture.

They are having a hard time dealing with this transition.

You literally would have thought I had announced that I would be breeding and raising a family of baby Hippo's for a living, with their reaction to this "new piece".

Why?

Because I put it here.

And they can't stand it.

Guess what?

I.Love.It.
For real.

I love the warmth of this antique table. I am short and it is the perfect height. We entertain all the time and it gives an additional space for foods or other items. I am planning on storing napkins, cloth and paper, in the drawers. Cool huh?

The top is worn and smooth as silk.

I waxed and buffed it and run my fingers over it every time I walk in the kitchen.

It is my friend now. It loves me too. I know it........

I even used my "hookie" secret and hung up my newly monogrammed dishtowels on the end of the table.

I am hoping it will eventually grow on them.

My friends and sisters loved it.

So, I am wondering what you think.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Then I can delete the comments that side with the "men" and make them believe that everyone agrees with me.

Hey, at least I'm honest.

I mean seriously.

Is it as dramatic as baby hippo's?

I think not.

Let me know your thoughts.

Before you cast your vote....look how cute my little stool fits under it! I used to have to tuck it here and there in the kitchen. We were always running into it.
I need it out because I use it all the time to get in my top cabinets.
Now it has it's place.

You gotta' love it.....

Right?

Let me know!

Love,

Me

  1. I adore it! I am 5 feet tall and need lower storage space too...plus, I love an island, especially one that is unique. Men don't understand fabulousness when they see it...

  2. I love it! My mom has had something similar in her kitchen for years. It's a little bit wider than yours and when its just the two of us, we usually eat there; breakfast and lunch for sure.

  5. I love it too! I would SO have a table/island in my kitchen if I had room for it. We have my Mom's home up for sale and we put a table in her kitchen as an island. It's in contract now. I'm sure it's the island that sold it! LOL

  12. It's the perfect size, not too big, I love it! One comment suggested that you paint it. A fun color would look great against your wood stained cupboards; however, if you do paint it, I would leave the top wood stained. I love a mix of a wood stained top and a painted base.

  18. LOVE! Someday when I have a big ol' farm kitchen I'll have a big ol' work table in the center of it. Boys are so silly sometimes.

  19. You're right, gotta love it! The wear of age is so warm and inviting, I see why you love it in your kitchen, height-challenged person :-). And your stool is perfect underneath. Tell the guys to get over it!!

  20. This is exactly what I want to do in my kitchen. We have literally 4 feet of counter space (cue the little violins here). My hubby also thinks a kitchen island is not a good idea. I guess he likes using the washer as a counter and having wasted space in the middle of our tiny kitchen. Maybe he does dance routines in there when I am not home. I am going to Pin this because I can't Pin pics from my brain. Looks awesome.

  21. I love it, I think it looks fantastic. I want an island in my kitchen also and my husband doesn't understand either.

  22. I love it also! Good choice! I wish my kitchen was big enough to do the same!

  23. Keep it. I know what your husband said, same thing my husband said "I have to walk all the way around it to get to the sink." I said he could use the exercise! My daughters and I love ours and my husband hates it. My kitchen is about the same size as yours and so it my island.

  24. Well, unless you've been deleting away, it looks like you have your own little support group here! I love it, too! Not so sure about painting it.... I love it just the way it is!

  25. Keep it. The guys will get used to it. I agree with Gardenmomma about not painting it but you have fantastic taste so whatever you choose will look great.

  26. I also love that it's moveable - anywhere you need it. Or want to use it. Then move it right back.

Probably better wait until you family gets used to it before you try that. :-)
