"Drop the Flops" station!

Hey! Sorry, I haven't been posting lately. We are at the beachhouse this week and have NOT had internet. They have been here, replaced the modem, talked to us for hours on phone and I am now using the neighbors wireless. I am soooooo aggravated! I haven't been on Facebook to see what you guys have been up to! I am missing you guys!

Thank you so much for all of your input on my "pricing" issues and booth life on my last post! I am going to test out the market a little more thoroughly and will keep you updated on what I find out.

Back to what is going on. When we stay at the beachhouse it is not just a time of "rest". It's repair time, cleaning time etc.  One of the issues with the beach is sand......I know....really?

To encourage guests to take off their shoes before entering the house I was going to place baskets at each door. I knew they would need labels or they would drop toys, trash, whatever in them...so I came up with this little pretty using dollar tree flip flops, dollar tree foam letters and cheap milk crates.

"Drop the Flops"! Pretty catchy isn't it? Pin it here first! I am proud of this little phrase I came up with!

The milk crates are perfect for sandy shoes!

And this was simple and easy!

Your cheap list of what you need?

Dollar Tree foam letters and flip flops.

And milk crates! You could of course use any kind of basket you want. I wanted something that could be easily lifted and swept under, or rinsed off with water, not trapping any sand in the basket.

We used a glue gun and the neighbors wrinkly hand, to design and stick the flip flops to the baskets.

I didn't come up with the letter idea until after this "failed" attempt with Walmarts $2.00 flip flops.

Cute but not what I was looking for and I knew my "guests" would need to be "told" what the basket was for. Even with flip flops glued to it.

So, "Drop the flops" was born.

Freebird painted this set, which I love! How cute are the Dollar Tree flip flops?

An easy and fun project that you could personalize with the foam letters any way that you decide.

One tip to make the flip flops lay flat against the uneven surface of the milk crate.....
Use the extra foam letters to create a "mounting" board. I stacked a few together, glued them up tight and then glued them to the milk crate and the flip flops to the letters.

Here....this picture may explain my babbling better.

I used a ton of glue wanting to make sure it held. I may even use fishing line to wrap too. They feel super solid but I know flip flops will be banged all against them so it will need to be super strong.

What do you think?

Toys? Cubby names? Possibilities are endless!

How would you use?

Need your own "Drop the Flops" station?

So far so good on ours!

Talk to me people! I will slide up against the side of the house in the back bedroom so I can mooch off the neighbors wireless and come back and chat!

I want to hear what YOU have to say!

Pin and share this if you like it and hang out with me on Facebook!

So.......

Need a shoe dropping station?

What about a "Drop the Flops" station?

Let me know!

Love,

Me

  4. Since you came up with such a cute summer time phrase can you help me out with something indoors for year round use? I like the idea of a cute sign, but I'm so worried about anything that screams "our carpet is more important than our friends," you know what I mean? Not sure where to get that balance...

    Cute craft, by the way!

  6. Great idea!!!! Wonder if I could get sonny to leave yard work sneaks outside in a milk crate instead of changing out of muddy sneaks into clean ones in the living room! Worth a shot, I pinned it and I'm not pin-crazy, just crazy LOL. Hope you get to enjoy the beach some while there...all work and no play...
